During the fall of 2012, Mark Wallace set up an initial meeting with Max Goldsmith and family to discuss the possibility of producing a documentary surrounding the events of 1960 and Coach Max Goldsmith’s legacy as it is tied to setting two national high school records in a single night in Andrews, Texas.
Mustang International has been producing documentaries, corporate videos, and television since 1991. Producer, Matt Wallace, graduated from Andrews High School in 1982, and has a deep love and appreciation for the history of Andrews and AISD.
Mustang International (www.MustangIntl.com) has been engaged by Mark Wallace to manage pre-production work, including this website and video, so that support and funding can be secured and full production can begin.

“New Clarity” Summer 2014 Update
A note from the producer regarding likely direction of production and post-production as of July 29, 2014.
Over the past five days, a lot has happened. Max passed away. Forest Scott passed away. We had a 24-hour day that included driving 11 hours to and from Andrews where we interviewed nine (9) gentlemen on Saturday during the annual AHS reunion weekend. Hearing the men share their experiences and memories at AHS with their peers and coaches helped further clarify what parts of this story we’re covering and what we have yet to capture. Their obvious affection for Coach Goldsmith was highlighted by their support of this effort and punctuated by the grief tied to our recent loss of the man himself.
Bottom line, we’ve been talking about how “time is running out” and the loss of Max was THE stark reminder of this fact.
However, in the midst of all of this, many key questions about how to pull this project together have finally started crystalizing in my thinking. There are still many, many unknowns, but I now can start building a real budget to answer the recurring questions of “How much will this cost?” and “When do you think it’ll be done?”
[mantra-pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”33%”]Bottom line, we’ve been talking about how “time is running out” and the loss of Max was THE stark reminder of this fact. [/mantra-pullquote] The ultimate answer to both of these come back to the age old saying of… GOOD – INEXPENSIVE – FAST: You can pick any TWO!
Our primary goal continues to be that the quality of this project will be high. We definitely want to do this right. The primary challenge for this project is that we have no video, audio or photos of the actual event (that we know of) to help tell the story of the night two national records were set by athletes running under Max Goldsmith. This presents a number of challenges. They can be overcome, but to do the story justice, it’s challenging.
One key topic that has been repeated by me, up to this point, has been the importance of how this project will be made available to the general public once it is completed. This ultimate audience and delivery method impact a number of decisions being made now. While we’ve not ruled out the possibility that this project could find a home on a sports or history-related TV channel, the likelihood of that happening is not very high without relinquishing an unacceptable amount of control along the way. So, we are now proceeding with a general plan that will make this program available via popular Internet-based channels that are easily accessible through a more standard TV interface. Also, we will make DVDs available.
As I build a more complete budget regarding this new vision as to how the story can and should be told, you can expect that this documentary will take at least another 18 months to really work. The only thing that’ll speed this up is enough funding to jumpstart and maintain a number of elements of this project simultaneously. With a new level of attention and resolve that leads to increased support – both attention and financially – it could mean that we could get this project sooner than later.
I realize all of this remains somewhat vague. My goal is to be very, very careful in setting expectations. Contact me or Mark Wallace to discuss specific questions you might have. In the coming months, Lord willing, I will be developing a much more specific budget and production plan using whatever resources we have available at the time.
Thanks for your interest.
